Outfit Of The Day: April 16

Spring is a great time to try out the latest fashion trends. The nice, yet cool weather allows for layering all of your new pieces. Today’s fashion inspiration comes from my mother {who also happens to be my overall life inspiration}. The outfit that she chose to wear was super casual and appropriate for the event she was going to.

Today she paired a cute floral jacket with relaxed denim and comfortable shoes and a basic white t-shirt.

This jacket offers the right amount of floral accent; it is not overwhelming. The style cut and color are extremely flattering and age appropriate.

The floral jacket was originally bought at Nordstrom {it is no longer available}.

White T-Shirt:

Everyone has or needs to have a favorite white t-shirt that is simple enough to go with any and everything.

Jeans:

These jeans are a relaxed fit and the dark color compliments the lightness of the jacket.

Jeans are originally from Boston Proper.

Shoes:

Cute but comfortable shoes have also been really important to my mother {she is partly to blame for my current shoe addiction}. I really feel like the color of the shoes really brings the whole look together. They keep the outfit from being too springy and compliment the weather and temperature.

Shoes are from Steve Madden.

Top 5 Things I love About Spring

My favorite season is upon us! Spring is my favorite time of year because it is a time of rebirth, renewal and a great time to feel refreshed. So here are my top 5 things I love about spring:

1.Flowers and trees begin to bloom again {on the downside, my allergies also make a come back}.

2.The weather begins to warm up {bye-bye below freezing temperatures, hello sun dresses}

3.The Easter Holiday {I honestly love any holiday that brings my family together}

4.School is coming to an end {Finals seasons is now here, all of my time will now be spent at the library}

5.Al fresco dining {my absolute favorite way to dine LOL}

Travel: Washington D.C

Washington, D.C, “the nation’s capital”, “the district”, or simply D.C., is know for being the capital of the United States and therefore one of the most important political cities in the world. I grew up in and around D.C. in an area that locals call the DMV {D.C., Maryland, and Virginia not Department of Motor Vehicles LOL}. As a native I simply think of this important and historic city as my cultural playground.

Places to stay: When I have to book a hotel in the city I love to stay at the W Hotel because it is literally right across the street from the White House. It is on the more expensive side but the great thing about D.C is that the city offers a lot of options for places to stay at many different prices.

Where to eat: A popular tourist destination to eat in D.C is Ben’s Chill Bowl. It is a city icon, with good food. I personally do not eat here very often; the lines are too long for me. My personal favorite Georgia Browns {I had my 21st birthday dinner there}. It is in a less congested part of downtown and they have an amazing menu.

Things to do: Most people come to D.C. to explore The White House, however there are other things to do in the city as well.

            Monuments: My favorite was to view the monuments is by boat. Spirit Of Washington is a great family friendly way to see the city. They hit many of the important sites that a tourist would want to see. You can also walk along the National Mall to see the monuments and the best time to do this is at night.  However my ultimate favorite way to see the city is by kayak. I rent my kayaks from a company called Boating in DC

Museums: I love the National Museum of Natural History. The best part to me is the dinosaur section. I also really enjoy the interactive nature of the museum. National Portrait Gallery is also another great option {I’m a history buff if you couldn’t tell}. The best part about the Museums in D.C is that most of them are free.

IMG_6379

            Shopping: There are shops all throughout D.C. but my favorite place to shop is Georgetown. This historic neighborhood has just about every shop you can think of. Parking can sometimes be a nightmare {which is nothing new in this city LOL}, however there are parking garages and there is also a free bus.

It’s Finally March!

It’s finally March! This is one of my favorite months of the year because so many great things are going on. My best friend’s birthday is March 3, mine is March 4, spring weather begins to appear and we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day {whew, I’m going to be busy!}.

This year I turned 21! Naturally this is a special day, however my friends made it extra special for me this year. They surprised me and flew my mom down to spend time with me. We also celebrated with a special dinner.

We ate at the Print Works Bistro at the Proximity Hotel. The food and the atmosphere were amazing. I ordered appetizers that included the shrimp and artichoke dip, pork and apple sage meatballs, truffle fries, and calamari. I can honestly say that everything was very delicious. I will definitely be making another trip back.

I can’t wait for all the other fun March activities to take place! How are you kicking off the spring season this year?

Breakfast Ideas

Breakfast: my least favorite meal.

Lately I’ve been making an effort to eat breakfast on a daily basis. I’ve never really been a fan of breakfast foods. The older I got, the busier I got; which meant I didn’t have a lot of time to sit and eat breakfast {and I was secretly happy about this fact}. I vowed to give up breakfast food forever. However, now that I’m trying to be healthier, I decided that I would give breakfast another try! The problem that I have {a reoccurring problem in all areas in my life} is that I get bored with things quickly. I like variety.

This week I’m trying oatmeal. Oatmeal offers me a lot of variety; there are many different things that you can add into it to switch it up. My favorite go to flavor is brown sugar with oatmeal. When I begin to get tired of that I try to add different fruits, such as blueberries, strawberries or raisins. The top pins can be fresh, frozen or dried.

I buy a bag of rolled oats and separate them into smaller bags for easy access in the morning. In each of the smaller bags I put ½ cup of oats.

When I’m ready to cook my breakfast I put the ½ cup of oats in a bowl with 1 cup of water or milk. I heat that up in the microwave for about 3 mins. Then I add my toppings of choice.

What are your favorite foods to eat for breakfast?

Winter Skin Remedy

Wow this winter has been unbelievably cold. As a result of the extreme temperatures my skin has been unbearably dry. I normally don’t suffer from dry skin, however this year I’ve had to re-work my beauty routine to include moisturizers. Here are some of my favorites:

For my face I love to use FRESH Seaberry Moisturizing Oil. When I first decided to give this a try I thought that it would make my skin way too oily because I already have slightly oily skin. However because it has been so cold out, this is the perfect thing to keep my skin from flaking. Thankfully the oil absorbs quickly. I only use one drop and apply to my whole face at night before I go to bed. I wake up in the morning with super smooth skin.

For my body I really had to step my game up. I recently began using Aura Glow Almond body oil. This is the only thing that I could find that would sufficiently moisturize my skin. I put this on as soon as I get out the shower and it leaves my skin soft for hours. {I am still on the hunt for the best hand moisturizer}

Everyone’s skin reacts differently to the weather and everyone’s reacts differently to products. What are some winter remedies that have worked for you?

Valentine’s Day Inspiration

Valentine’s Day is coming up and this special holiday is spent letting your partner know how much you appreciate them {I personally think this should be done everyday lol} In my experience there is always a lot of pressure on both people to make the day perfect. An easy way to make sure the date goes smoothly is to make sure your outfit is put together. Even if the date is a little awkward at least you will look good. Here are some outfits that would be great options for a formal dinner.

The first is a flirty and girly outfit.

The second is a sexy yet conservative outfit.

I hope your Valentine’s Day is filled with love

Outfit Of The Day: Feb 5 2014

Today’s Outfit of the day comes from my friend and roommate Emily. I loved her casual yet stylish outfit so much that I decided to feature her on my blog. College students and professionals are so busy that we forget to take some time to make ourselves feel and look good. It only took Emily 5mins this morning to put her outfit together. The key to looking great while in a hurry is having a few great basics. Most of the items that she is wearing came form Nordstrom.

What are some ways you stay stylish while busy?

Three Essential Things…

Okay so recently I came across a question that really got me thinking. The question that was proposed was: If your house {unfortunately} caught on fire, what would be the three essential things that you would have to bring with you? When I first heard this question, I thought to myself “there is no way that I can only bring three things”. I mean somehow during a freshman year dorm fire drill I found time to pack a bag complete with my computer, every charger that was in sight, cell phone, change of clothes and a bottle of water {I didn’t want to take any chances LOL}. Anyways, the three essential things that I would have to bring with me are:

  1. My Cellphone w/ charger {I would be heartbroken if I lost all of my pictures}  Unknown-3
  2. My yorkie Bella {She’s my world}

3. My wallet {This contains all my important documents that would be hard to replace}

Unknown-4

What would be the three things that you would have to bring with you?

It would be a complete disaster if my house actually did burn down, and I would never want that to happen to anyone I knew or myself. If your house has burned down I sincerely apologize. This was just a fun question that allows us to look at our ridiculous priorities.

My Favorite Lipsticks

Today I will be discussing affordable and high-end Lipsticks. Lipsticks are a quick and easy way to pull together a look. Complicated lipstick trends come and go throughout the seasons however there are also many timeless ones.

Affordable

My new favorite lipstick is “Revlon’s Plum Baby”. I recently discovered this color while I was randomly looking through the aisles at CVS. I normally would not choose a purple color but I decided to take a chance and I absolutely love it!!!! The purple color is sheer and doesn’t stand out too much.

“High End”

My favorite “high-end” lipstick would be MAC’s “Angel”. To me it is the perfect pink-nude. I can wear this color all year round. When I’m in a rush to get out the door in a hurry I usually reach for this color. MAC always makes good quality products and I know that the products are going to last me a long time.

Tips

No matter which lipstick I choose to wear I always make sure that I exfoliate and put on chap stick before I apply the color for better results. Another fun tip is that you can put a similar eye shadow color on top of the lipstick to make it matte. I would suggest putting on a lot of lip moisturizer because your lips will be dry.
